Course Overview

The Diploma in Italian introduces students to the basics of the Italian language and assists them in developing their language competence in relation to the common situations of everyday life. The course concentrates on all four main language skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing) and uses authentic material, carefully selected, to provide a gradual introduction to the structures and functions of the language.

In addition, a cultural module will introduce students to aspects of contemporary Italian culture including the main trends in Italian art, cinema, history and lectures on a variety of topics from different regions in Italy to wine-tasting sessions. On completion of the programme, students acquire a very high level of oral and written communication skills in the Italian language for personal, travel or professional purposes.

What Our Students Say

Annette

Annette Kearney |   Diploma Graduate

I have really enjoyed the evening diploma course in Italian run by NUI Galway. Not only did it serve to provide me with a university qualification, but it has given me a useful introduction to the Italian culture and ways of conversation not to mention a much appreciated network of fellow Italy enthusiasts in Galway. Run over two years, it has enabled me to learn an additional language at a pace which is manageable in a busy work and family environment. The modules were taught an enjoyable manner by lecturers who were most professional and encouraging. I'd highly recommend it!
