Top Messages for Students
The higher education landscape is continuously evolving and it can be difficult to keep on the top of the changing offerings by all higher education institutions. We have compiled below 6 top messages for 2019 that might be useful for you to know as you advise and counsel students who have an interest in studying at NUI Galway.
1. What do our students have to say?
We would love for prospective students to hear what current students have to say about NUI Galway. We have a new suite of student blogs that our student ambassadors have compiled and we hope that they will inspire and guide future NUI Galway students in what to expect and how to prepare for college life.
2. Promoting participation of women in Engineering
The College of Engineering and Informatics at NUI Galway is proud of its long history of graduating successful female Engineers. In fact, Alice Perry, the first woman to receive a degree in Engineering in either Ireland or the United Kingdom graduated me from this University in 1906, top of her class in Civil Engineering. Our female graduates are truly inspirational and a new webpage was launched in 2018 to showcase some of our successful female graduates working in exciting roles across the world. Perhaps you could share this video in your classroom to encourage all students, male and female, to consider a career in Engineering.
3. Advice for parents
Schools Liaison Officer, Caroline Duggan, has written two blogs for parents to guide them on how they can support their son/daughter in the Leaving Cert year.
4. Consider the QQI/FET/FETAC Pathways
NUI Galway has doubled the number of students entering an undergraduate degree with a QQI/FET/FETACLevel 5 qualification in the last year. The number of places available to further education students and the number of QQI level 5 courses recognised has increased substantially. Encourage your students to explore this option with a new booklet recently launched by the Access Office.
